Scott's Letters Home-Memorable Comments #2

October 14, 2008

Mom & Dad - So its 5:45 am and Im doing laundry, ugh, it’s so early! Oh well. Ya, so its p-day today and Im excited! Oh, before I forget.... I hate to ask anything of you but can you send me the following: Food or snacks (ha-ha), a thick pillow (the pillows here are like as thin as a piece of paper), more black pants-just plain, a package of stamps (I ran out yesterday!), My electronic shaver (Its a pain to use cream every day!), Last thing; my Broncos blanket (the blankets here are small, really small!) THANK YOU! Gracias!

The spirit is so strong here! It’s Fabuluso! Its been a great experience! Although the day after I came, (my first full day!) I didn't know if I could make it. But then our district got closer and closer and we drew from each other and this really helped! I went to choir and it was REALLY fun! We sang "BE STILL MY SOUL". It is a great song to sing and has lots of deep meaning for me. I also had the wonderful opportunity to working the R.C. (Referral Center). What an amazing place! If I get accepted to BYU I am going to teach and work there ALL THE TIME! The building consists of tons of computers and if you go onto there are prompts all over that say, "CHAT NOW" or "CALL IN". It’s a wonderful place for interested people to come and see our basic beliefs. It’s amazing! You can chat through txt message on computer or phone. I am working there today! Im so excited!

I can no longer pray in English! I know now how its possible to learn a language in just 9 weeks...THE SPIRIT and the willingness to learn! The language is coming along very nicely! So that's not a problem and the lessons are also coming along!

And yes, I usually get the letters the day u send them! Technically I'm only supposed to write on p-day but I have a lot of letters to write so for now I write them in bed under the covers with a flashlight! Ha-ha. So until next time!
Love Ya,

Scott's Letters Home-MemorableComments

October 9, 2008 - From Scott's first letter to arrive home on 10/12/08

"Mom & Dad - So this was the big day! My first FULL day @ the MTC! It was fun but challenging! Already I miss everyone and think of you when I have time, (time...what's time?) HAHA. From 6:30 am to 10:30 pm is planned for me and I am constantly working. The food is pretty good. THEY HAVE Barq's!! It's great, now I know I will be gaining weight! My companion is Elder Ivey. He is a great person and is very spiritual (which is probably good for me!). The classes are very long but they are fun! My teachers are great! Man O Man, the MTC is a little Hidden village! People everywhere! And they have everything anyone would need and its a great place. Its hard to look @ the mountains though because when I start thinking about home. I look at the family pictures all the time! THANKS for all you do! I love you so Much! You are such a big support for me.

The zone leader came into our room and said...."If you don't feel like smiling, smile until you do!" I thought that was a pretty cool statement! Well I better go! Have a great week! Here's a gift I can afford..... (Scott then did a pencil rub of his missionary tag which reads;

PS-Also, THANK YOU for the wonderful letters! They were very helpful for my first couple of days and I know they will continue to help me throughout my mission! Gracias!
Love, Elder Austin

Doing well and enjoying the MTC

Scott has written several letters and is doing well. The language is coming along nicely and Scott is beginning to think in Spanish. Pretty amazing when you consider only a week of training! Scott said the spirit of God is helping him learn the language. He is truly on fire and influenced by the Lord's presence in his life.

His letter express excitement for the work and the MTC. He particularly enjoys the referral center loaded with computers and interested people from the "outside". Scott has now expressed interest in attending BYU when he returns and wants to work in the referral center.

Life in the MTC is very busy with little time to write letters. Scott said the accommodations are OK but the pillows are flat as a "piece of paper" and the blankets are "very short". He asked for snacks, his electric shaver, stamps, black pants and his bronco blanket. We sent them and wow does the post office make money!

All in all Scott is doing well, excited and happy! What more can we ask?

Scott Enters the MTC October 8th!

On October 8th Scott entered the MTC in Provo with 320 other newbies. It was an emotional day with plenty of tear and full hearts. Thanks to Stephanie Garcia's willingness to watch Shawn and Cami's children, Annie and Ethan, they were able to participate in the orientation session with Mom and Dad. Afterward's Shawn said it was harder to be on this side of the fence comparing this day to when he entered the MTC "back in the day" as Scott would say. Cami agreed and it was great to have her beautiful spirit with us as well.

Here is Shawn & Cami's Ethan 18 months old
wanting to Drive Scott to the MTC!

Here is Annie rolling in the grass while Ethan
plays with the balls. Different than night n day.

Hannah, Janessa, and Addie (with the help of their mom) sang me an amazing song, "Called to Serve". This was just 13 days before i would be entering the MTC. I sure am going to miss them. They mean the world to me and i LOVE them very much! I cant wait to see what they will look like when i come back!

Mission call!

July 5 i was going to drive somewhere and i thought i should check the mail. Well that was a good idea because i had recieved my call. I called my girlfriend and then my parents and other good friends. I decided to wait til Becca came back from utah and my sister and her family could make it. So basically my mom had another day to save up her tears. haha jk. (she probably cried both days).
